Kinumpirma ni Pangasinan Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna De Guzman ang pagkakaroon ng local transmission ng Delta variant ng COVID-19 sa ating lalawigan. Ito ay sa ginanap na Question Hour ng Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Pangasinan sa kanilang regular physical session kahapon. 

Walo ang dumagdag na kaso ng kumpirmadong Delta variant sa probinsya noong nakaraang linggo, dalawa rito ay mga OFW. 

“From the previous week we have additional 8 delta variant, we now have 11. Eleven confirmed Delta cases and six of these are actually locally transmitted. Doon po sa 8 na ipinadala na advisory ng DOH, dalawa ay OFW, anim dyan ay locally transmitted.. May locally transmission na ng Delta variant,” sabi ni Dr. De Guzman. Ito ay nang tanungin ni Committee on Health Chairperson at Fourth District Board Member Ming Rosario kung meron na nga bang Delta sa lalawigan. 

Ayon kay Dr. De Guzman, mandatory raw ang pagpapadala ng sample ng lahat ng Overseas Filipino Workers o OFW sa Genome Center para i-test kung Delta variant ba o hindi, pero para sa local swab ay random na pinipili ng otoridad ang ipinapadalang sample. 

“…the DOH determines the selection of the specimen kasi random, padala ka ng ganitong set, they give the numbers at yun po ang pinapadala po natin for genome sequencing.. Randomly collected po dahil ang mga OFW lang po ang mandatory na sini-sequence po ng ating Genome Center, however for the local po, randomly selected po yan.”

Dagdag pa ni Dr. De Guzman, nagtatagal ng tatlo hanggang apat na linggo ang sample kung ito ay ipapa-sequence sa Philippine Genome Center sa Maynila. 

Ayon naman sa eksperto mula sa World Health Organization, variant of concern umano ang Delta dahil sa mabilis na pagkalat ng virus. 

“…the Delta variant is a variant of concern that WHO is tracking and monitoring around the world. It’s a variant of concern because we know it has increased transmissibility. This has been demonstrated by several countries. And we know that where the Delta variant is identified, it really rapidly takes off and spreads between people more efficiently than even the Alpha variant that was first detected around December, January 2021. As of today, the Delta variant has been reported in 96 countries and we expect that the Delta variant will continue to spread,” ayon kay Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove ng World Health Organization.

Iginiit ni Dr. De Guzman na mas maigi na iwasan ang mga matataong lugar, paghugas ng mga kamay gamit ang malinis na tubig at sabon, pagsusuot ng face mask, at pagsunod sa physical distancing para maiwasan ang COVID-19. 

Inaasahan namang makakatulog ang pagpapasailalim ng lalawigan sa General Community Quarantine with heightened restrictions na magsisimula bukas September 8 hanggang September 30, 2021 para mapababa ang patuloy na pagtaas ng kaso ng COVID-19 dito.
